BAGUIO CITY – The Cordillera was able to vaccinate around 53 percent of the targeted eligible adult population during the conduct of the 3-day National Vaccination for the supposed realization of the desired population protection and eventual herd immunity by the end of the year or early next year.
Based on the data obtained from the Cordillera office of the Department of Health (DOH-CAR), there were a total of 136,384 eligible adult populations who were vaccinated in the different parts of the region during the conduct of the aggressive vaccination.
However, the number of vaccinated individuals regionwide fell short of the 236,384 targeted eligible population that should be vaccinated on the said occasion.
Abra registered the highest percentage of vaccinated eligible adult population with 83 percent where 14,965 individuals out of the 17,961 adults were inoculated followed by Apayao which recorded 69 percent where 9,015 people out of the 13,143 adults were jobbed; Kalinga – 41 percent where 14,291 out of the 34,998 were vaccinated; Benguet – 40 percent where 31,820 out of the 79,920people were inoculated; Baguio City – 38 percent where 21,176 individuals out of the targeted adult population of 56,289 were given their vaccines; Ifugao – 33 percent where 12,520 out of the 37,737 targeted individuals were inoculated and Mountain Province – 32 percent where only 7,386 out of the 22,989 targeted adult population were vaccinated.
Health authorities disclosed that the number of inoculated individuals in the region will increase in the coming days with the extension of the bayanihan Bakunahan and the upcoming conduct of another similar nationwide vaccination even by December 15-17, 2021 to help in the achievement of the desired population protection and eventual herd immunity, especially with the emergence of the more infectious and more transmissible Omicron variant which is now present in some 30 countries.
At present, the Cordillera ranks second to the National Capital Region (NCR) in terms of coverage of fully vaccinated individuals based on the target of 70 percent of the 2021 projected population in the region of 1,822,719.
The 70 percent of the region’s population is 1,275,903 which is supposed to be inoculated by the end of the year.
The DOH-CAR reported that 79 percent of the region’s population equivalent to 1,010,827 individuals already received their first dose.
Of the said vaccinated individuals, 57.73 percent which is equivalent to 736,640 individuals are already fully vaccinated while 21.49 percent equivalent to 274,187 people are said to be partially vaccinated.
Subsequently, health workers were also able to administer some 15,273 booster shots to the identified members of the priority sectors as part of the ongoing efforts of the government to administer the same to the general population to ensure added protection for people not to contract the severe infection of the virus.
Earlier, the health department announced that it will be issuing the guidelines for the administration of the booster shots to the individuals who have been vaccinated for the information and guidance of the public. By HENT
