LUNA, Apayao – 15 yApayaos who are members of the Provincial Nutrition Council (PNC) underwent training “Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) in the First 1000 (F1K) Days” under the Idol Ko Si Nanay Roll Out.
Said training attended by Nutrition Coordinators, Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS), Midwives and Provincial Health Office (PHO) staff from Apayao was held on March 5-7, 2024 at Country Inn, Sta. Ana, Cagayan.
Present during said training were Rizel Obispo – Nurse II/PHO Apayao, Saleah Reina Joven -Nutritionist Dietician Provincial Department of Health Office (PDOHO) of Kalinga and Kristal Gail Dacio – Nutritionist Dietician PHO of Kalinga as trainors.
The activity “Idol Ko si Nanay” is a 10-module class inclusive of lectures and actual food demonstrations with the main objective to increase the knowledge of participants on “Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) in the First 1000 (F1K) Days.”
The session seeks to empower nutritionists to provide nutritional care to 6-23 months old children. This period is considered the “golden window of opportunity” for the child to achieve their full potential in different aspects of development.
With the training, participants now have a better understanding of their responsibilities, knowledge and skills as nutrition movers in the province, improving their confidence which can positively impact their performance.
The program aims to strengthen the delivery of key interventions on health, nutrition, social services and early learning to help achieve optimum growth and development of the child.
The trainees are expected to implement Idol Ko Si Nanay, training other workers in their barangays. This is expected to be held in the third quarter of the year to highlight the celebration of the Nutrition Month in July and Breastfeeding Month in August. By KJ Castillo
