TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The City Nutrition Council (CNC), convened for its first quarter meeting on April 22, 2024, to discuss its re-organization and City Nutrition Action Plan.
In its report, the City Health Services Office (CHSO) presented the latest data concerning the nutritional status of children six and below. As part of the proposed City Nutrition Action Plan, the members presented their intervention program to address malnutrition in said age group.
As presented, there is a decrease in underweight cases from 317 during the 4th quarter of 2023 to 291 for the first quarter of this year.
Cases of wasting for the 6 and below age group also decreased from 122 during the 4th quarter of 2023 to 96 for the 1st quarter of 2024.
Cases of obesity however increased from 267 during the 4th quarter of 2023 to 304 for the 1st quarter of 2024.
While the cases of stunting which is the basis for the Seal of Good Local Government evaluation also increased from 540 for the 4th quarter of 2023 to 592 during the 1st quarter of 2024.
Aside from the regular programs of the CHSO, other proposed interventions include sustaining home food production and provision of information education campaigns and specialized training programs focused on nutrition.
Mayor Darwin C. Estrañero also reiterated the need to focus the intervention on the families identified with malnourished children and look into the reasons to effectively provide appropriate interventions. By Tabuk PIO
