STA. ANA, Cagayan – Eighteen healthcare workers from various Local Government Units (LGUs) of Apayao, along with the Department of Education (DepEd) nurses, participated in the five-day Training of Facilitators for Basic Life Support (BLS) held in Sta. Ana, Cagayan from March 4 to March 8, 2023.
After the training, said individuals will spearhead similar training sessions within the province, improving BLS knowledge and bolstering emergency response capabilities.
The Provincial Government of Apayao (PGA), through its Provincial Health Office (PHO), organized this training initiative, funded under the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO).
The Department of Health Center for Health Development Cordillera (DOH – CAR) Health Emergency Management Services (HEMS), in collaboration with the Mountain Province Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, provided valuable assistance for the successful execution of the program.
Aligned with DOH Administrative Order No. 155 s. 2004, which outlines guidelines for managing mass casualty incidents during emergencies and disasters, BLS training is deemed mandatory for all healthcare workers. This strengthens capacity building and stressing resilience against calamities and emergencies, in line with the DOH’s 8-Point Action Agenda, particularly Action Agenda 4, ‘Handa sa Krisis’ (Ready for health crises and emergencies).
It is hoped that ultimately, this effort contributes to the vision of establishing a CPR-ready Philippines and developing more resilient communities through a whole-of-government approach.
Provincial Health Officer II Dr. Mark M. Calban congratulated the graduates and their respective agencies as well as to the training team led by Course Director Donnah Jane D. Gozum from the PHO, Deputy Director Jester Laguerta from San Lazaro Hospital, and Course Monitor Dr. Alexis Q. Dimapilis from San Lazaro Hospital.
Gratitude was also expressed to the PDRRMO for their financial support towards the endeavour. By JCM
