KABUGAO, Apayao – A total of 225 residents from Madduang, Dagara, and Maragat barangays in Kabugao received medical assistance through the efforts of German Doctors for Developing Countries (e.V.) from April 16 to 18, 2024.
The team from German Doctors for Developing Countries collaborated with the municipal government of Kabugao and the Kabugao Rural Health Unit to deliver essential healthcare services focusing on priority areas, offering medical consultations, tests, and health education to the local community.
The mission coincided with the inauguration of the Madduang-Dagara-Maragat road on April 17, 2024, where the team had the opportunity to meet with local officials, including Governor Elias C. Bulut Jr. and Kabugao Mayor Bensmar B. Ligwang.
German Doctors for Developing Countries is a humanitarian organization established in 1983 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, initially known as “Ärzte für die dritte Welt.” It operates as a nonprofit group, with German doctors volunteering their time and expertise in underdeveloped nations during their annual leave. To date, over 3,100 medical professionals have participated in more than 6,700 missions worldwide, with around twenty percent of these missions led by senior doctors aged sixty-two and above. The organization focuses on improving healthcare in geographically isolated and depressed Areas.
The partnership between German Doctors and the local authorities in Kabugao aims to ensure that residents have access to essential healthcare services. Led by Dra. Ayesha Sattar, a pediatrician, along with Farvelyn Cabay, Jenny Mercado, Rhea Galut, and Robert Lamawen, the GD Team provided similar services to residents of Madatag, Dibagat, Cabetayan, and Karagawan barangays.
