BAUKO, Mountain Province – Some fifty three families from Mount Data here received their completed core shelters from local officials, regional and provincial government representatives during simple turnover rites during a rainy day recently.
The core shelter assistance amounting to P70,000 each is the government’s assistance to families who are displaced by natural calamities and other emergencies that affect certain areas in the different parts of the country.
Janet Armas, regional director of the Cordillera office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD-CAR), explained the core shelter assistance being extended by the government to calamity victims is to allow them to recover from their bizarre experience of being displaced from their houses because of the serious negative effects of climate change.
Armas added calamity victims can also access other financial and technical assistance from the regional and provincial offices of the DSWD for them to recover from the wrath of natural calamities and for them to uplift their living condition.
The 53 families are residents of Mount Data who were displaced by the previous logging operations and were affected by the sinking problem along the road, thus, their relocation to safer grounds through the government’s core shelter program.
Mayor Abraham B. Akilit reminded the beneficiaries of their accountabilities and responsibilities for the assistance towards building new neighbourhood.
“The house is not to be the end of collaborative work but the beginning of other initiatives that benefits the new neighbourhood like the pathways and water supply,” Akilit said.
Akilit claimed the government will extend to whoever will be seeking assistance partial assistance and it will be up to them to compliment whatever resources made available to them for them to recover from the difficult situations where they have been into through the years.
He appealed to the beneficiaries to start being resilient in life in their new homes for them to recover from their previous situation so that they will be able to uplift their current status in life.
For the local government, the local chief executive assured the beneficiaries that concerned offices are open to attend to their needs upon validation, evaluation and assessment for them to sustain the resilience that they have gained over the past several years.
