SABLAN, Benguet – The municipal government will formally be launching the conduct of the 9th Sablan Fruit Festival on Monday, August 7, 2023 that will run until September 4, 2023.
Mayor Alfredo Dacumos, Jr. said that this year’s theme of the town’s crowd drawing event is ‘Fruits of Harmony: Celebrating Nature’s Sympathy.’
On August 7, 2023, the fruit festival will kick off with the opening of the commercial agri-trade fair along the national highway that will be followed by the thanksgiving mass and formal opening program at the municipal gymnasium and canvas painting in the afternoon of the said date.
There will also be a car and motorcycle show in barangay Poblacion on August 9, 2023 that will be followed by the invitational volleyball games at the municipal gymnasium on August 11, 2023.
Residents and visitors will have a chance to witness and participate in the so-called farm tour at the municipal gymnasium on August 12, 2023 and the organizational formation of calamay farmers in barangay Bayabas on August 14, 2023.
On August 16, 2023, the public will have a chance to see the video editing challenge dubbed “Sablan’s Finest Cuts’ at the municipal gymnasium that will be followed by a mass wedding and poster making contest in the same venue on August 18, 2023.
The municipal government will also be conducting spaying and neutering of dogs and cats at the municipal gymnasium on August 23, 2023.
Sports enthusiasts will have a chance to witness a combative sports competition at the municipal gymnasium and the integrated diversified farming competition that will be held on August 25, 2023.
On August 28, 2023 running enthusiasts will have a chance to join the scheduled fun run that will be followed by the Search for Heaviest Fruits that will be held at the municipal gymnasium.
There will also be a medical mission and blood letting activity that will be held at the municipal gymnasium on August 30, 2023 which will be followed by the indigenous fruits art packaging and local fruit-based juice drink and fruit shake contest at the same venue on September 1, 2023.
On September 2, 2023, the much-awaited fruit parade will be conducted that will be followed by the Sablan fruit festival main program, the inter-barangay agri-booth trade fair and competition, fruit medley, free haircut and acoustic competition and battle of the bands.
The farmers congress and micro, small and medium enterprise cacao demo and art workshop will all be held at the municipal gymnasium.
The streetdancing and ground demonstration and awarding and closing ceremony will be held on September 4, 2023.
Dacumos extended the invitation to both residents and tourists to visit the municipality and enjoy the activities that had been lined up by the local government for this year’s fruit festival to help in bringing back the vibrance of the local economy and tourism industry.
