CEBU CITY-Antique City is all geared up for their first time to host the Palarong Pambansa in its 60th edition, after winning the bid to host the sporting activity edging Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental by one vote last month, according to the Palarong Pambansa selection committee.
The Palarong Pambansa which will converge 18 regions in the country will be held in San Jose De Buenavista tentatively scheduled on April 2017, after all the regions have finished with their respective regional meets this February and March 2017.
New sporting events will be added in this year edition. These events, demo sports in last Year’s Palaro held in Legaspi, Albay and had no bearing in the overall medal standings, are Wushu, Billards, Wrestling, and Futsal.
Aside from the inclusion of four demo sports in the regular sporting events, the following events will be contested in the secondary division; archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, boxing, chess, football, gymnastics (MAG, WAG, and RG), sepak takraw seniors, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis and volleyball.
On the other hand the Department of Education is also pushing for the inclusion of Chess, 50-meter and century dashes for the differently-abled athletes.
The rest of the regular sport events will likewise be contested by the elementary division with the exception of archery and boxing, during the 2017 series of the biggest inter-school sports competition in the country.
