LAMUT, Ifugao, (PIA)- – Indeed, there are people with a big heart for the poor. Such is Atty. Raymond Marvic C. Baguilat of Bolog, Kiangan, Ifugao who donated his salary as guest lecturer of the Ifugao State University (IFSU) for a social entrepreneurship and scholarship program for poor but deserving students.
Baguilat donated his net compensation of P48,600.00 for his 216 hours as guest faculty under the Political Science program for the first semester of school year 2014-2015 last April 15. It was received by IFSU President Serafin Ngohayon through a memorandum of agreement (MOA) between the school and the donor.
He added another donation of P15,000.00 last May 19 to increase the fund called the RMCB Social Entrepreneurship and Scholarship Program.
Baguilat, a bachelor, said that he lauds the existence of several scholarship programs in the university yet recognizes that these are not enough to cater to the indigent students. He shared that to solve this need and the gap from graduation to employment, he is donating his money for the creation of a Social Entrepreneurship Program (SEP).
The SEP is a general merchandise business in the university which offers discounts to students. It is a general school supplies, photo and printing store inside IFSU that provides the most student-friendly prices for products and services with an automatic portion of every sale allocated for the scholarship program.
The scholarship will cover tuition fees and other expenses of scholars including their monthly allowance and a scholar savings allocation which shall be given to the scholars after graduation for payment of board or civil service review classes or allowance for other career advancement.
This will be implemented by the TBBJ-CHED Iskolar ng Bayan organization which is a recognized and existing scholarship organization registered at IFSU Main Campus.
The guidelines of this project shall be drafted by the University in consultation with the donor.
