BANGUED, Abra – Department of Agriculture-Cordillera (DA-CAR) urged the farmers to start teaching their children to love agriculture and fisheries.
This was stressed by OIC DA-CAR Regional Director Lorenzo Caranguian during the Farmers Day here recently.
He said that the younger generation today has no interest in reading and learning agricultural basic concepts. He asked farmers to encourage their sons and daughters to love and venture into farming.
With this, Caranguian mentioned that farmer’s children can avail of the Agricultural Competitive Enhancement Fund (ACEF) Scholarship Program in the nation’s state universities and colleges that offer courses in agriculture and fisheries.
ACEF will shoulder the scholar’s school expenses including the tuition and miscellaneous fee (excluding books), a monthly stipend of PhP1000, and a PhP 5000 thesis writing allowance.
“Teaching our children to love farming because there are children that misidentify crops and animals such as tobacco to cabbage, corn to garlic”, he added.
In addition, Caranguian hopes to bring back basic or introduction of agriculture to elementary until college.
