SAN ISIDRO, Abra – A 38-year old driver was hurt after he was allegedly shot by a barangay kagawad while on his way home at Pobacion here around 5:45 pm on New Year’s Day.
Senior Superintendent Antonio Bartolome, provincial director of the Abra Provincial Police Office, identified the victim as Reynaldo Sales Siganay, 35, married, driver, and a resident of Poblacion Villaviciosa, Abra, while he named the suspect as Ernesto Valera Baro, 38, married, Barangay Kagawad, and a resident of Sitio San Gregorio, Naguilian Lapaz Abra.
Initial police investigation showed the victim just came from the house of Villaviciosa Mayor Marjorie Lagen Montalbo and served as a back rider in a motorcycle when upon reaching the place of incident, they were fired upon by the suspect several times with one bullet hitting him on his abdomen.
He was immediately rushed to the nearest local hospital before he was transferred to the Seares Memorial Hospital fur further observation and medical treatment.
The suspect was later arrested by elements of the San Isidro Municipal Police Station and awaiting the filing of attempted homicide charges against him before the Abra provincial prosecutor’s office while the firearm used was not recovered.
