Bontoc, Mountain Province – As the centre of commerce, trade, education, and governance; crime activities in the capital town are still manageable.
This was reported by PMAJ Ryan Wakat, the Chief of Police of Bontoc Municipal Police Station (MPS) during the Municipal Peace and Order Council (MPOC) meeting on April 17, 2024, in Barangay Talubin, Bontoc, Mountain Province.
He noted a decrease in the total crime incidents as Bontoc has recorded only two from February 21, 2024- April 15, 2024, compared to seven total crime incidents on February 21, 2023-April 15, 2023. The two crime incidents were one violation of special laws and one other non-index.
In the implementation of the Municipal Ordinances, topping the list are violators of the Municipal Traffic Code with a total of 515 covering February 21, 2024 – April 15, 2024.
The highest violation listed is Prohibited Parking with 208 followed by Unattended Parking with 199. Other violations recorded are No Driver’s License -10, No Helmet-22, Wrong Mode of Parking-12, Obstruction-51, Load Limit-three, Wearing of Slippers-five, Disregarding Traffic Sign-one, Muffler which is covered under Municipal Ordinance No.334, S. 2021 is one, Reckless Driving-one and Driving under the Influence of Liquor-two. The citation tickets were paid by the violators at the Office of the Municipal Treasurer.
In the implementation of Municipal Ordinance No. 65, S. 2001, particularly on the Liquor Ban, eight violations were recorded by the Bontoc MPS which were endorsed to the Office of the Municipal Treasurer for the collection of penalties to be paid by the business establishment-violators.
PMAJ Wakat credited the accomplishment to the continuous conduct of checkpoints, Bakal Sita, Mobile and Foot Patrol of the police personnel in their area of jurisdictions, the presence of CCTVs, and the support of partner government agencies, the Municipal and Barangay LGU, other stakeholders, and the community.
