BONTOC, Mountain Province – “In the deference to the situation brought about by the death of our beloved Governor Leonard Mayaen, the events scheduled on April 7,8, and 9, 2016 will be rescheduled to April 14, 15, and 16, 2016”.
That was the announcement made by Paulino Tumapang, Jr., the Chairperson of the Lang-ay Festival Organization, the embodiment of the partnership between the provincial government and the private sector to manage the staging of Lang-ay Festival 2016, during the opening ceremonies of the Lang-ay Festival 2016.
The announcement was made after due consultations were made with the representatives of the municipalities and with the go signal of Vice Governor Bonifacio Lacwasan and the memebsr of the Sanggunaing Panlalawigan.
The province is still gripped by mourning for the death of the governor last Thursday. The reported cause was cardiac arrest.
Among the events that are moved to the later dates are the cultural Exposition on April 14, indigenous games, the Igorot Showdown, the Ethnic Fashion Show on April 15, and the Street dancing and cultural presentations, Lang-ay by the Street, Gangsa Night, and the closing program on April 16, 2016.
The commemoration of the foundation of the province will still proceed on April 7 while the Kataguan Caravan will still be a go on April 6.
The Secretariat has already forwarded notices to the coordinators of the municipalities regarding the moves or rescheduling of the major events and activities.
By that time the burial of the remains of the governor will have been conducted.
