LA TRINIDAD, Benguet– Benguet Caretaker Congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Yap assured residents in the province’s 140 barangays and 13 municipalities that his own version of the mobile ‘tulong’ program will continue to be providing the appropriate aid to those who are in need of the same.
Yap, who chairs the powerful House committee on appropriat6ions, stated that he will continue to work out with concerned government agencies, local governments, the private sector and other individuals and corporations for the provision of the appropriate assistance to the people who are in need of help for them to recover from the impact of the prevailing various levels of community quarantine to contain the spread of the dreaded Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the province.
The lawmaker launched his mobile ‘tulong’ program at the height of the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) to bring the needed assistance to the people in the different parts of the province who were heavily impacted by the lockdown.
Among the vital components of the aforesaid program include the ‘manok na puti’ where thousands of heads of chicken were sold at P70 per head where the P20 were subsidized from his persona resources, the Bigas Para Sa Bayan where thousands of sacks of rice were distributed to the indigent living in the different parts of the province, the distributi8on of medicines and vitamins to the people and other available assistance deemed necessary by the organizers.
Congressman Yap claimed that all programs, projects and activities being undertaken by his office will continue aside from establishing partnerships with different civic organizations that will continue to infuse whatever available assistance that could be provided to the people, especially those living in the remote villages in the province.
According to him, the primary purpose of the mobile ‘tulong’ program is to bring closer to the people the essential services of concerned government agencies for them to continue feeling the presence of government right in their midst and for them to understand that government is always there to extend a helping hand.
Aside from his mobile ‘tulong’ program, Congressman Yap also coordinated with the various government agencies to cascade to the grassroots level the benefits enshrined under the labor department’s Tulong Panghanapuhay Para Sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program, the social welfare department’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS), the health department’s medical assistance for indigent patients (MAIP) and other livelihood program lodged with government offices.
Further, the province’s youth also benefited from his Youth Assistance Program (YAP) where the allowances of the more than 1,000 beneficiaries were sourced from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) while he facilitated the grant of training for work program for interested individuals wanting to acquired skills from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
Yap urged the residents to continue seeking assistance from his office because he wants to sustaining bringing genuine public service to Benguet so that people will be able to benefit from the programs of government. By HENT
