BAGUIO CITY – Undersecretary for Regional Operations Engr. Sancho A. Mabborang of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Mountain Province Governor Hon. Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr., Bontoc Mayor Hon. Jerome Tudlong, Jr., regional directors Dr. Nancy A. Bantog and Dr. Julius Caesar Sicat of the DOST Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) and Region 3, respectively, recently convened in a meeting to explore the potential adoption of Automatic Waste Segregation (AWS) machine invented by Engr. Victoriano Ocon of Vic Metal Fabrication and Environmental Services, Inc.
Ocon discussed that this technology is the latest and provides the best way of waste management. Easy installation, low operation cost, minimum land requirement and a healthy solution to waste problem are just few of the advantages of this technology.
The capacity, cost, and environmental advantages of the AWS machine and possible arrangement for the procurement of the technology were also discussed in the meeting.
Governor Lacwasan showed his interest in the technology as he mentioned that waste is a major problem not just in Bontoc but in the whole province of Mountain Province. Meanwhile, Mayor Tudlong wanted to gain more insight on the technology before investing.
With this, Usec. Mabborang shared the DOST-CAR’s plan of inviting the Bontoc municipal government to conduct a benchmarking to the installed AWS machine in Dumaguete and Cebu.
It was mentioned by Bantog that the benchmarking is an offshoot during the technology forum on eco-friendly technologies last 7 February 2023 where the Tublay municipal government requested to benchmark in one of the installed facilities with complete component.
Usec. Mabborang also assured that the DOST will continue to assist local governments in the identification of appropriate technologies for a smarter and greener community.
