LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The provincial government headed by Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture–Regional Field Office (DA-RFO), Agricultural Training Institute–Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC), and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), is set to capacitate agricultural extension workers (AEWs) in the province in a bid to strengthen and improve the delivery of extension services to farmers.
This will be done through the Province-led Agriculture and Fisheries Extension System (PAFES) intervention which is a system designed to help coordinate plans and activities of different organizations involved in agriculture and fisheries.
DA-RFO through the Cordillera PAFES Regional Program Management Office provided P1.1 million for the project while the provincial government provided its counterpart in the amount of P218,000. The former was turned over by DA-RFO Regional Executive Director Cameron Odsey together with Cordillera ATI-RTC Training Center Director Charlie Sagudan and Cordillera BFAR Regional Director Lilibeth Signey at the Provincial Capitol on May 15.
Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator Fidela Luis, the chair of the Provincial Management Group, said a training will be conducted for the AEWs of the provincial and municipal local government units who will then capacitate the different barangay AEWs and biosecurity officers in the 13 towns of Benguet.
The project aims at strengthening and enhancing the capacities of the Local Government unit AEWs on interpersonal communication, values leadership, teaching methodologies for adults and agriculture and data profiling. By SAP Jr.
