Around 6,596 cases of influenza in elementary pupils and high school students have been reported thus Mayor Benjamin Magalong gave the directive for parents to check on their children, keep them from school once symptoms of influenza are observed, and inform the respective teachers.
Consultation with health authorities at the nearest health facility should also be done.
Mayor Magalong gave the directive through Health Services Officer – City Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (HSO-CESU) Dr. Donnabel Tubera-Panes to whom the data was given.
It has been reported by Department of Education (Dep-Ed) Medical Officer Roger Sinot, Jr., that the pupils and students were infected with flu, since September up to date.
Fever/chills, cough, sore throat, runny/stuffy nose, headache, body aches, fatigue/tiredness and in some children, vomiting are some of the symptoms.
Dr. Sinot, Jr. said treatment to the children has been given, with education to the parents.
Hospital Pediatric wards have also been observed to be teeming with pre-adolescents and teen-agers. By JGF
