CONNER, Apayao – The Apayao PLGU pushed for the training of social workers and Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officers in the province thru the conduct of Volunteers Management and the Formulation of a Camp Management Plan and training, providing Php 107,414.00 fund in a move to strengthen its disaster response and preparedness.
This initiative underscores the commitment of the provincial government of Apayao to prioritize readiness in the face of disasters and strengthen community resilience against potential hazards and emergencies.
Spearheaded by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), Ms. Jocelyn A. Loyon, the chief of office, emphasized the need for the activity highlighting that the said training shall certainly enhance the province’s readiness in responding to emergencies.
The two-day training was held on March 6-7, 2024, at Gummon Farm and Resort in Malama, Conner, Apayao, with a total of 32 participants, which included Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officers (MSWDOs), Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officers (MDRRMOs), disaster response focal persons, and sectoral volunteers from Sta. Marcela, Flora, Luna, and Calanasan.
Resource experts from the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Cordillera Administrative Region (DSWD-CAR) facilitated the training. Some expert from the DRMB division, Ms. Angela M. Ocawe, Ms. Eliza B. Pang-et, Mr. Dazin B. Hangdaan, Ms. Gretchen Garcia, and Ms. Melessa Bugnaen, also helped in the successful conduct of the activity.
During the training sessions, participants collectively drafted policies and guidelines on Volunteer Management, emphasizing the importance of coordination and collaboration among stakeholders during emergency response efforts.
Additionally, a comprehensive Camp Management Plan was formulated, outlining procedures for ensuring the safety and well-being of individuals residing in camps during emergencies. By Jane Osam
