Athletes Shine In Kitedjo-Mangibato Judo Invitational Tournament

BAGUIO CITY- The Cordillera Judo Association (CJA), in coordination with the City Government, conducted an invitational Judo tournament dubbed “KITEDJO-MANGIBATO” as part of the September 1st Baguio Day Celebrations last Sunday, September 25, 2016 at the Engineer’s Hill Barangay covered court.

Prior to the said tournament, a Refereeing Seminar was also conducted by three International Referees of the Philippine Judo Federation namely Ms. Rochelle Baclagan, Ms. Evelyn Panganiban, and PJF General Secretary Luleo A. Panganiban at the Old Orangewood located at P. Burgos St. Baguio City on September 24, 2016.

Subsequently the tournament was participated in by the different Judo Clubs in Baguio and Benguet and Manila as follows; University of Baguio Judo Club, University of the Cordilleras, Cordillera Career Development College, Philippine National Police, YMCA-KAITAGI Judo Club and De La Salle University, Manila. With a total of more than one hundred fifty athletes in one hundred thirty six fights in unarmed combat in fixed fighting order, saw the Judokas muscle their way to the championships in the KIDS Division, Men’s Division and Women’s Division with the following results.

KIDS DIVISION: Below 7 years old – 1st place – Aeon Allan (YMCA-KAI), 2nd place – CJ Corpuz (YMCA-KAI). Below 12 yrs. old category, 1st Place – Elquiko Quelino (YMCA-KAI), 2nd place – Michael Trinidad (YMCA-Kai). Below 15, yrs. old, 1st place – River Baniwas (YMCA-KAI), 2nd place- Ron Novino (DLSU), 3rd place – Dhenardo Caoili (YMCA-KAI), Below 15 yrs. old Heavy weight category, 1st place- John Hernandez (DLSU), 2nd place – Seth Pineda (YMCA-KAI), 3rd placers – Forest Baniwas and Felipe Villanueva (YMCA-KAI).

The women Judokas’ also showed their skills in combat in ten weight categories as follows: Novice Light weight division; 1st place – Mylene Pinkihan (UBJC), 2nd place- Lourden Baoy (CCDC), 3rd place- Averie Vicente (UBJC). Novice Middle Weight Division; 1st place – Jolayn Edoc (PNP), 2nd place- Eunice Angwani (UCJC), All White Light Weight Division; 1st place- Andrea De Leon (DLSU), 2nd place- Averie Vicente (UBJC), 3rd place – Jazlen Awitan (UBJC). All White Middle Weight Division; 1st place- April Guidangen (UBJC), 2nd place – Tyler Brillo (DLSU), 3rd place- Deirde Gapos (UBJC). All White Heavy Weight Division; 1st place- Arian Galfo (DLSU), 2nd place- Kassandra Nabus (UBJC). Junior Light Weight Division; 1st place- Mylen Pinkihan (UBJC), 2nd place – Andrea De Leon (DLSU), 3rd place- Jazlen Awitan (UBJC). Junior Middle Weight Division; 1st place- Charmea Quelino (DLSU), 2nd place – Princess Moyaen (UBJC), 3rd placers’- Andrea Villena (DLSU) and Deirde Gapos (UBJC). Open Light Weight Division; 1st place- Riza Tacay (PNP), 2nd place – Racquel Tacay (PNP), 3rd place- Andrea De Leon (DLSU). Open Middle Weight Division; 1st place- Mae Valencia (DLSU), 2nd place- Charmea Quelino (DLSU), 3rd placers’- April Guidangen (UBJC) and Tyler Brillo (DLSU), Open Heavy Weight Division; 1st place- Clarissa Gasingan (CCDC), 2nd place- Arian Galfo (DLSU).
Meanwhile the Men’s Division in twenty weight categories have the following results; Novice -55 Kgs., 1st place- Johan Tomas (UBJC), 2nd place- Rogie Visaya (UCJC), 3rd place- Mark De Guzman (UCJC). Novice -60 Kgs., 1st place- Patrick Bin-ong (YMCA-KAI), 2nd place- Elmer Batani (PNP), 3rd place- Johnrick Awakan (UBJC) and Romnick Sacla (UBJC). Novice -66 Kgs., 1st place- Nelson Vargas (PNP), 2nd place- Jasper Lopez (CCDC), 3rd place – Jenner Madarang and Charlie Maganon (PNP). Novice -73 Kgs. 1st place – Rene Ilonen (PNP), 2nd place- Mostapha Macarangkat (PNP), 3rd place- Jericho Manadchay (UBJC). Novice -90 Kgs. 1st place- Ezra Tawanna (UBJC), 2nd place- Jyan Lingbanan (CCDC). All White -55 Kgs. 1st place- Boniwell Amistad (UBJC), 2nd place- John Togay-an (CCDC), 3rd place- Rainer Zaparita (UBJC) and Axel Allan (YMCA-KAI). All White -60 Kgs. 1st place- Brandean Binua (UBJC), 2nd place- Patrick Bin-ong (YMCA-KAI), 3rd place- Angelo Im-motna and John Rick Awakan (UBJC). All White -66 Kgs. 1st place- Norvy Stalin (UBJC), 2nd place- Fred Aclopen (UBJC), 3rd place- Ronnie Carpio (CCDC) and Nelson Vaegas (PNP).
All White -73 Kgs. 1st place- Berrt Solio-an (CCDC), 2nd place- John Hernandez (DLSU), All White -90 Kgs. 1st place- Ezra Malanos (DLSU), 2nd place- Ezra Tawanna (UBJC).

Juniors -55 Kgs. 1st place- Axel Allan (YMCA_KAI), 2nd place- Kimmer Lubante (CCDC), 3rd place- Reiner Zaparita (UBJC), Juniors -60 Kgs. 1st place-Brandean Binua (UBJC), 2nd place- Bryan Erot (UCJC), 3rd place- Patrick Bin-ong (YMCA-KAI). Juniors -73 Kgs. 1st place- Mylie Ligos (UCJC), 2nd place- Kiefer Dumawa (YMCA-KAI). Juniors -90 Kgs. 1st place- Ezra Malanos (DLSU), 2nd place- Trance Cudao (YMCA-KAI).

The Cordillera Judo Association (CJA) as the umbrella organization for Judo in the Cordillera Administrative Region affiliated with the Philippine Judo Federation is looking for ways through its affiliated clubs to uplift the sport in the region, with the stewardship of its masters, officers, instructors friends and sponsors more tournaments is possible to pursue and bring back the glory days of sporting Judo in the Cordilleras.
