“I thank the Regional Development Council (RDC) – CAR for its endorsement of the Betwagan Bridge, which is now funded under the GAA 2022 in the amount of Php60M and with commendation to the Infrastructure Committee, DPWH-CAR and to all its members”, said Committee Co-Chair and PSR for Infrastructure Development Arch. Maria Jorquesa Hakcholna during the 1st quarter meeting of the RDC-CAR Infrastructure Development Committee (InfraCom) last 15 February 2022.
In August 2015, the construction of the super structure of Betwagan Bridge collapsed because of the swelling of Chico River brought about by the onslaught of Typhoon Ineng. The redesign and fund sourcing of the collapsed bridge has since been worked out by the MLGU of Sadanga, DPWH-CAR and supported by the RDC-CAR.
Last year, the RDC-CAR passed Resolution No. 33, s. 2021 “Endorsing to Secretary Carlito G. Galvez, Jr., Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity, The Construction of Betwagan (vehicular) Bridge, Sadanga, Mountain Province for Funding and Implementation under the Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (PAMANA) Program of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process”. The OPAPP favorably endorsed this to DPWH-CO.
The PAMANA Program of the national government’s convergence program extends development interventions to isolated, hard-to-reach and conflict-affected communities to ensure that they are not left behind.
The Betwagan Bridge will allow more livelihood opportunities for the residents of Betwagan and help address the presence of communist terrorist groups in the barangay. By Joseph Joshua C. Sibaen
