LA TRINIDAD, Benguet March 26 – The League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) – Benguet Chapter and concerned sectors joined the people of the province in wishing Benguet Caretaker Congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Go Yap good health and speedy recovery from the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) that afflicted him and forced him to go on the prescribed 14-day quarantine.
LMP–Benguet Secretary-General and Mankayan Mayor Frenzel Ayong expressed his surprise upon learning of the revelation of the Benguet caretaker congressman that he was positive of COVID-19 after receiving his positive test result from the health department 10 days from the date that he underwent the aforesaid test.
“We will surely include him in our prayers for us to be able to successfully hurdle these trying times and for Congressman Yap to be spared from whatever danger and for him to immediately recover from the deadly virus for him so he can pursue his programs, projects and activities for the faster pace of development province-wide,” Mayor Ayong stressed.
Yap was supposed to meet the LMP Benguet members last March 10, 2020 in Metro Manila while they were attending the LMP National Convention and for them to handover the group’s resolution opposing the call for the conduct of special elections to fill up the vacated congressional post but he was not able to attend the said meeting because he was busy presiding over the meeting of the House Committee on Appropriations which he chairs to discuss the proposed supplemental budget of the health department to be able to combat the deadly virus.
On his part, LMP–Benguet chapter treasurer and La Trinidad Mayor Romeo K. Salda was saddened upon learning that Congressman Yap contracted the deadly virus through his exposure to people that might have also been exposed to confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country, thus, the same should serve as a stern warning to the people who insist on going out of their homes to comply with the strict policy for them to stay at home and observe the prescribed social distancing.
Salda stated that the presence of the virus in the midst of our communities is no joke because even high ranking officials of the government officials, like Congressman Yap and medical officers, are not spared from contracting the contagious illness that could compromise their health, thus, people should use the recent developments on COVID-19 as their basis in deciding what will be the best for them.
He wished the lawmaker good health and for him to immediately recover from the life-threatening illness because the Filipino people, especially the Benguet folk, need his unwavering services for the province to be able to achieve the needed opportunity to develop through the provision of additional resources that he will be able to source out from the national government being the chairperson of the House committee on appropriations.
