BONTOC, Mountain Province – The first day of December 2022 marked the start of the nationwide observance of Oplan Paalala-Iwas Paputok 2022, an annual fire safety campaign for the Yuletide season.
Simultaneous blowing of horns and a motorcade were conducted by the Municipal Fire Station, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Municipal Health Office, Municipal Police Station, Provincial Department of Health Office, Bontoc General Hospital, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Office of the Provincial Fire Marshal, criminology interns of the Mountain Province State Polytechnic College, and volunteers to kick off this month-long activity.
Acting Municipal Fire Marshal INSP Bartolome Cacamo remarked that active participation and community contributes to the promotion of fire safety in the municipality.
Likewise, Vice Mayor Eusebio Kabluyen who represented Mayor Jerome “Chagsen” Tudlong, Jr., appealed to the public not to use firecrackers this holiday season but rather use alternatives to fireworks such as noise and light-producing devices like car horns, bells, or pans to prevent injuries.
Meanwhile, Municipal Health Officer Dr. Diga Kay Gomez seconded the Vice Mayor’s message and expressed high hopes for a zero (0) firecracker-related incident this year.
