LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Benguet caretaker congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Go Yap disclosed he will be able to lobby for funding support for the implementation of development projects in the province following his appointment as the new Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations.
In an official statement given to the media recently, Yap wholeheartedly accepted his appointment as the new Chairperson of the powerful House Committee on Appropriations like what he did when he was appointed as the province’s caretaker, in addition to his being the former chairperson of the House Committee on Games and Amusements.
Yap stressed.
The neophyte lawmaker pointed out that it is a good opportunity for him to ensure that every legislation that passes through the House committee on appropriations will be beneficial to the greater majority of the Filipino people, especially those in need of adequate assistance from the government.
He assured his colleagues and the Filipino people he will remain neutral and listen to the needs of needy sectors for him to be able to appropriately perform the ‘power of the purse’ of Congress.
Aside from the annual budget of the national government, the other important matters that will pass through the House committee on appropriations include legislations needing funding support, and the priority development projects of the government, like social services.
As the appointed caretaker of Benguet, Yap explained that his appointment as the new chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations will also be a good chance for him to bring to the people and to deliver to them their needs through priority projects beneficial to the recipients of such high-impact development projects.
He assured the people of the province he will continue to devote part of his time to consult with the people of the different municipalities to ascertain the needs of these constituencies through the provincial and municipal officials even with his new appointment because he wants the people to be able to feel the presence of government.
Yap was appointed by House Speaker Allan Peter Cayetano as the Caretaker Congressman of Benguet after the untimely demise of the late Rep. Nestor B. Fongwan, Sr. who passed away last December 18, 2019 due to a lingering illness.
