City officials agreed to adopt Book 1 of the implemented cultural mapping project in the city and endorsed this to the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) for information and appropriate action.
Under Resolution No. 066, series of 2023, city legislators stated that Book 1 of the implemented cultural mapping project contains 216 cultural/heritage resources consisting of 6 sub-books comprising the city’s tangible immovable heritage, tangible movable, intangible cultural heritage, natural heritage, significant personalities, as well as cultural institutions.
Further, the council added that the cultural mapping will serve as a reference document for all community stakeholders be it from the local government, other government instrumentalities, and stakeholders from the private sector.
Republic Act (RA) No. 10066, otherwise known as the National Cultural Heritage Act of 2009, aims to protect, preserve, conserve and promote the nation’s cultural heritage, its properties and histories and the ethnicity of local communities.
On the other hand, Executive Order No. 13, series of 2021, was issued creating the Baguio City Cultural Heritage Conservation Committee with functions related to policy and program recommendation to ensure the protection, preservation, conservation and promotion of the local cultural and historical heritage; revitalize and maintain local heritage zones and establish and maintain a local registry of cultural property.
The council noted that the city government then started to coordinate with the NCCA for the sustainable implementation of the cultural mapping project.
On March 27, 2021, the city government and the NCCA forged a memorandum of agreement (MOA) for the implementation of the cultural mapping project which started in October 2021 and ended on March 31, 2022 for the cultural mapping Book 1.
