City officials recently supported the fun run event ‘Run for Your Kidneys’ organized by the Baguio Dialysis Patients’ Organization and the city governments as co-organizer subject to conditions.
In a resolution, local legislators stated that the event aims to provide support to dialysis patients of the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) and to continuously promote health and fitness in the community.
However, the organizers of the event should comply with the provisions of Ordinance No. 46, series of 2016 which prescribes the rules and regulations in the conduct of fun run and other races in the city and observe minimum health protocols including the safety of the runners and pedestrians.
The resolution was anchored on Section 19, Article 14, of the 1987 Constitution which provides that the State shall promote physical education and encourage sports programs, league competitions and amateur sports, including trainings for international competitions to foster self-discipline, teamwork and excellence for the development of a healthy had alert citizenry.
Likewise, Section 15, Article 2, states that the State shall protect and promote the right to health of the people and instill health consciousness among them.
Earlier, the Baguio Dialysis Patients’ Organization, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing support for dialysis patients of the BGHMC, organized a fun run event ‘Run for Your Kidneys’ to be conducted on March 24, 2024.
Copies of the approved resolution will be provided to all concerned offices for their information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. By Dexter A. See
