The city government appreciated and commended the efforts of the Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association (PMSEA) in sustaining the PMSEA Garden at the Botanical Park that now serves as one of the major tourist attractions in the said area.
City Environment and Parks Management Officer lawyer Rhenan Diwas recently handed over to PMSEA president a certificate of appreciation for the group’s passion and dedication in maintaining and even expanding the PMSEA garden as part of its contribution in the effort of the local government to enhance its existing tourist destinations, particularly the public larks.
He claimed that the PMSEA Garden was the local government’s entry to the Philippine Water Conference leading to Baguio City’s placing fifth in this competition with the garden playing a key role in continuously bringing pride and honor to the city.
Further, the city was the only local government to land in the top ten entries that were recognized by the organizers of the conference which truly reflects the beauty and grandeur of the PMSEA Garden.
From a muddy, grassy and garbage-filled area over a decade ago, PMSEA converted the area into the PMSEA Garden which is a thriving showroom of the country’s rich flora and fauna where more than 160 species of flowers, shrubs and plants are among others grown there.
In 2011, PMSEA adopted the 1,500-square meter area for the initial implementation of its corporate responsibility in the city before expanding the same in 2017. In 2022, the PMSEA Garden was further expanded to a wider area as a production area for various flowers and plants that are endemic not only in the Cordillera but also in the whole country.
For his part, Sarmiento assured that the PMSEA will continue to perform its green tradition in the annual conduct of the conference in the city to be able to contribute in sustaining the beauty and grandeur of the country’s undisputed Summer Capital.
He claimed that one of the innovations introduced in the conduct of the various events in the city is for attendees to practice re-use and repurposing of their materials that are used.
Moreover, Sarmiento explained that for the group’s contribution in water conservation, water will only be served to the participants upon request.
He encouraged the participants to do their part in keeping up with the green tradition to help in maintaining the city’s beauty considering that it is the one of the PMSEA for a number of decades.
PMSEA is one of the adopters of certain portions of the Botanical Park to help in aggressively maintaining and promoting the park as a major tourist destination that is frequented by foreign and domestic visitors.
PMSEA is an association of numerous stakeholders actively involved in the country’s minerals industry that are adhering to the practice of responsible mining.
The theme of this year’s annual conference is Mining 4.0: Safer, Smarter and Sustainable.
