BAGUIO CITY – Vice Mayor Edison Bilog explains why the city council does not support the implementation of jeepney modernization, during a forum last Wednesday.
In his short talk, he shared four reasons why the city council does not support the modernization of jeepney’s.
The first reason being, the new jeepney is not ready for high terrains. Since Baguio is a mountainous area, the new jeepney might not be able to climb up the road, especially for barangays located in higher locations.
The modern jeepney being expensive is another reason why they oppose it. Jeepney drivers and operators might not be able to cope up with the cost of a new jeepney unit.
The modernized jeepney requires wifi connection, which is another expense for the drivers and operators.
Lastly, the mini bus might not fit the roads of the city. “Tignan ko lang kung hindi magkanda leche-leche ang traffic ditto sa lungsod”, Bilog says.
Cheers of agreement were heard all over the room from the different drivers and operators of Baguio as Bilog was giving his short talk.
Drivers and operators are said to have submitted a petition to the Department of Transportation and are still waiting for the result. By Alyssa Dawn Alalag
