BAGUIO CITY – An art exhibit featuring the works of Frank Georg, a German artist who painted the biggest “Last Supper” and other art pieces now displayed at the Baguio Cathedral, will be unveiled Monday morning (May 16) at the City Hall lobby.
Mayor Mauricio Domogan and other city officials will preside over the ribbon-cutting rites for the art display which will showcase Georg’s 63 paintings and drawings done in his usual medium of ink mixed with pencil and a combination of pointillism and woodcut prints.
After the week-long run until May 22, the said artworks will be permanently displayed at the Dominican Hill and Retreat House as Georg decided to donate them to the city government as his token of gratitude to the city for considering him as a Baguio resident and “good neighbor to all.”
Goerg, a well-traveled painter, landscaper, food and beverage expert, gardener, apple/cherry/plum propagator, has been volunteering his services to the city government as a landscaper since 2010 and was credited for the spruce up of the gardens at City Hall, the Post Office park and currently the center island leading to Burnham Park.
He came to Baguio in 1996 and had stayed since.
City environment and parks management officer Cordelia Lacsamana and Assistant CEPMO officer Ruben Cervantes said the exhibit is also the city’s way of thanking Goerg for his voluntary contributions to the city especially in improving the surroundings of his areas of assignment and in imparting his knowledge and skills to CEPMO employees.
“Much as we want to, we cannot give him any salary for the services he has been rendering to us and this exhibit to make known his wonderful artworks is but a small way we can express our gratitude to him,” Lacsamana said.
