BAGUIO CITY – The seven regional Young Farmers’ Challenge (YFC) winners from the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) successfully presented their business model canvases (BMCs) in the first phase of the YFC national-level competition virtual pitching on November 13 to 17 in Baguio City.
On November 13, Jeptha Dulnuan (Yabbies Production), Lovy Trinidad (Ra’sawan Ulang Aqua Farm), and Artemio Marcelo, Jr. (Sweet Skies) showcased their BMCs. The following day, Noel Bagote (Producto de Num-a Farm) and Jerald Encollado (JE Dairy Farm) took the virtual stage. Afterwards, on November 17, Rhisvel Lomas-e (Vhell’s Heirloom Rice Flour) and Chreesteehn Luis (Queegrobeehn Processed Goods) presented their agri-enterprise.
The Department of Agriculture-Cordillera (DA-CAR) provided a dedicated virtual presentation space for the pitching. However, due to the demands of their work and studies, Trinidad and Encollado presented from their respective hometowns.
The judges provided constructive feedback, suggesting improvements such as acquiring organic certification, enhancing packaging, and considering rebranding for a stronger market presence.
Anne Frias-Lisbo, Chief of the Agribusiness Promotion Division at the DA-Central Office, reassured the young farmers of their ongoing support. She expressed, “All of you have potential, having reached the national level. I hope that despite not making it to the final cut, you will use this opportunity to grow and build a network through this program. Rest assured that the Department of Agriculture will continue to guide you, not only by providing grants but also in enhancing your enterprises.”
There will be 35 young farmers who will qualify for the second and last phase. Shortlisted agri-preneurs will be announced in a week. By JBPeralta and CEWaytan
