After repeated clamor from stakeholders and development partners and the initiative of Regional Development Council Chair and Abra Governor Joy Bernos, the RDC Agriculture sub-committee will begin to meet and tackle concerns of agriculture and development in the Cordillera region. The RDC-CAR Executive Committee agreed to the revival of the Agriculture sub-committee under the Economic Development committee during their meeting on January 23.
Economic Development Committee and DTI CAR Regional Director Myrna Pablo welcomed the revival of the Agriculture sub-committee to be led by DA-CAR Regional Director Cameron Odsey. Director Odsey had earlier expressed his commitment to leading the committee. “As the Chair of the Economic Development Committee, we welcome this committee as the Department of Agriculture is one of our most important members”, Pablo said. Emphasizing a value-chain approach, she continued that the Cordillera economy starts from agricultural production.
The Regional Development Plan 2017-2022, consolidated by NEDA-CAR, recognizes the small economic production of agriculture in the Cordillera but highlights the potential of the region in producing and processing high-value crops to help boost the sector and it relatively high labor absorptive capacity.
