City officials recently approved the allocation of one unit as a temporary pick up point along the Baguio Patriotic School before the pedestrian lane for the Itogon public utility jeepneys (PUJs) bound to Dalicno, Ampucao and Acupan, Virac, Itogon, Benguet subject to conditions.
Under Resolution No. 030, series of 2024, the Committee on Public Utilities, Transportation and Traffic Legislation in its 3rd indorsement dated January 12, 2024 recommended approval for the allocation of a pick-up point for Itogon-bound jeepneys along Baguio Patriotic School before the pedestrian lane subject to the conditions recommended by the City Engineering Office (CEO).
Among the conditions imposed for the allocation of one unit temporary pick up point along the Baguio Patriotic School for Itogon-bound jeepneys include only one unit is allowed at any time for alternate use of jeepneys of Dalicno and Acupan where the operators and drivers of both destinations should agree on a fleet management system to alternately use the allocated space; a jeepney waiting or double parked beyond the allocated space shall be apprehended by law enforcers; the orderliness and cleanliness in the designated temporary pick up point shall be observed at all times and the grant of a pick-up point is temporary and could be recalled if it will generate an adverse impact on the traffic situation in the said area.
Earlier, the local legislative body considered Resolution No. 587, series of 2023 of the Itogon municipal council that requested the City Mayor’s Office, through the Chairperson of the City Council Committee on Public Utilities, Transportation and Traffic Legislation and the Liga ng mga Barangay president to consider the proposed drop, pick and go within the vicinity of the Petron gasoline station along Harrison Road for the jeepneys of Baguio-Dalicno and Baguio-Acupan, Ampucao and Virac, respectively, Itogon, Benguet.
In a letter dated January 10, 2024 of Engr. Januario S. Borillo and noted by City Engineer Edgar Victorio Olpindo, to the local legislative body relative to the aforesaid resolution, it stated that the space along the Baguio Patriotic School before the pedestrian lane could be allocated for the Dalicno and Virac-bound jeepneys as shown by a map that was provided the council for the said purpose.
Further, the allocated pick up point is for one unit of jeepney only, thus, the Dalicno and Acupan jeepneys should agree between themselves on a fleet management system to alternately use the allocated displacement.
Olpindo emphasized that only one jeepney at a time will be allowed in the allocated space.
Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the concerned jeepney associations and the Itogon municipal council for their information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. By Dexter A. See
