The Department of Agriculture-Cordillera Administrative Region (DA-CAR) has been duly recognized for their exemplary service, tireless efforts, and steadfast support of local farmers in their pursuit of advancing the Philippine Good Agricultural Practices (PhilGAP) program.
The Certificate of Recognition was bestowed upon DA-CAR during the PhilGAP Symposium organized by the DA-Bureau of Plant Industry, which carried the theme, “Sa PhilGAP Wagi Ka, Ang Makabagong Gawi sa Pagsasaka.” The symposium was held on October 3-4, 2023 in Koronadal City, South Cotabato.
As per the latest data from the DA-CAR Regulatory Division, the region boasts a remarkable achievement with a total of 383 active GAP-certified farms as of October 2023. The numbers continue to grow with 159 new applicants and 59 seeking renewal from January to August 2023, with a substantial number already granted certification and ongoing evaluations.
Doweno Santiago, Jr., the GAP Focal Person, emphasized that this recognition is the result of a collaborative effort by the Regulatory Division, the High Value Crops and Development Program, and the provincial and municipal local government units.
Ruben Dulagan, the Regulatory Division Chief, shared an exciting development in the agency’s ongoing commitment to PhilGAP – allowing staff to train as PhilGAP inspectors. This initiative not only opens up new horizons for the agency’s employees but also strengthens the relentless dedication to the PhilGAP cause.
The PhilGAP Symposium was attended by approximately 300 participants, including PhilGAP-certified farm owners, exporters, DA officials, and stakeholders from across the Philippines. The event provided a platform for experienced PhilGAP-certified farm owners to share their insights and underscore the diverse benefits of the program. Among the speakers was Basilio Ngaseo, Jr., owner of Basilio Jr. Ngaseo’s Farm, located in Balili, Mankayan, Benguet.
The Certificate of Recognition was received with pride and gratitude by Ruben Dulagan, Doweno Santiago, Jr., and Magdalena Capis, representing the commitment of DA-CAR to the success and continued growth of the PhilGAP program in the region.
