The Department of Agriculture- Cordillera Administrative Region (DA-CAR) granted PhP27.5 million worth of projects and Php300, 000.00 award in recognition to the 10 Best Barangay Implementers of the Rabies Program this year during the culminating activity of the National Livestock and Poultry Month.
DA-CAR Regional Technical Director for Research and Regulations Atty. Jennilyn M. Dawayan commended the efforts of the barangays towards rabies-free communities.
“May we continuously do information dissemination about rabies program in our respective areas, and may we strive to achieve our goal to be rabies-free. This event is a recognition of your effort, whether big or small,” expressed Atty. Dawayan.
The 10 barangays awarded as Best Barangay Rabies Program Implementers received Php 30,000.00 worth of cheque and a plaque of appreciation. The awardees were Brgy. Middle Quirino Hill, Baguio City; Brgy. Scout Barrio, Baguio City; Brgy. Upper Rock Quarry, Baguio City; Brgy. Alapang, La Trinidad, Benguet; Brgy. Shilan, La Trinidad, Benguet; Brgy. Poblacion, Itogon, Benguet; Brgy. Ucab, Itogon, Benguet; Brgy. Dagupan Centro, Tabuk City, Kalinga; Brgy. Lubon, Tadian, Mt. Province, and the Brgy. Otucan Sur, Bauko, Mt. Province.
“Recognizing the efforts of the LGUs, may other LGUs be our model in the effective implementation of rabies program,” reiterated Department of Health Rabies Program Coordinator Roy Fiaching.
Along with the awarding ceremony of the barangays, an INSPIRE project amounting to Php 5.5 million was also granted to four Farmer Cooperatives and Associations namely: Sagubo Multi-Purpose Cooperative; Tabano-Omang Livelihood Project Organization; Kapangan OFW Returnees Organization, and the People for Rural Empowerment Agriculture Cooperative.
Moreover, five (5) heads of dairy cattle (Holstein Friesian x Girolando) were turned over to BV Agri Pasture Association Incorporated and Kuwengan Farmers Association as loan assistance in line with the Corn Livestock Integration Project. The assistance amounted to a total of Php920,000.00.
During their acceptance speech, George Esteras, an awardee from Dagupan Centro, Tabuk City, thanked the DA family for recognizing their efforts.
“We strictly implement our ordinance on the ‘aso mo, itali mo’. Also, we have our complete master list of dogs and cats because we are serious in implementing our rabies program. Rest assured that we will continue what we have started,” Esteras stated.
Larry Puputi of the People for Rural Empowerment Agriculture Cooperative, a recipient of the INSPIRE project, also said that they are grateful for the support and trust of the government and has committed to make the project possible in the province of Apayao.
Meanwhile, Andres Matib of the BV Agri Pasture Association Incorporated said that they will be a good steward of the assistance given to them since they are able to meet the qualifications.

In closing, DA-CAR Regulatory Division Chief Ruben Dulagan commended all the recipients and encouraged them to sustain the projects and assistance given.
“We hope that our recipients will serve as models for others to emulate,” said Dulagan.
