LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The Department of Agriculture-Cordillera Administrative Region (DA-CAR) conducted a forum on regulatory policies and concerns affecting crops, livestock and postharvest last October 20, 2017 at the DA Conference Hall, DA-CAR, BPI Compound, Baguio City.
The activity was spearheaded by the Regulatory Division. Among the participants who attended the activity were agricultural technicians and veterinarians from the Local Government Units (LGUs) of Benguet, Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO), City Veterinary Office (CVO) of Baguio City, and private practitioners.
Chief of Regulatory Division Dr. Anthony D. Bantog welcomed the participants and said that understanding the nation’s regulatory laws are important in all aspects of production, processing and marketing. He added that the importance of these laws is to ensure the quality of products in the market.
Representatives from DA-CAR Regulatory Division discussed topics the Food Safety Act of 2013, among others.
Food safety was one of the concerns during the forum, especially this relates to product competitiveness in the ASEAN. The certification and standardization of GAP and GAHP were established to promote good quality products and protect the health of the people. “Not just only the safety of the consumer but also the producer,” said Dr. Bantog during the discussion in GAP, GAHP and the Republic Act 10611 (Food Safety Act).
Among other topics presented were Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), Good Animal Husbandry Practices (GAHP), Republic Act 1556 (Livestock and Poultry Feeds Act), Republic Act 8485 (Animal Welfare Act), Republic Act 3720 (Food, Drugs and Devices and Cosmetics Act), and Administrative Order No. 08.
