TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The Department of Agriculture’s Philippine Rice Research Institute (DA-PhilRice) paid a courtesy call to the Office of the City Mayor Darwin Estrañero to personally award the national recognition given to the City of Tabuk and the Office for the City Agricultural Services (OFCAS) on the 17th of February, 2022.
According to OFCAS Agriculturist Michelle Lomas-i, Tabuk exceeded its aim of 9,000 rice seeds during the dry season of last year so they requested an additional 14,000 bags to accommodate more farmers, earning the prize for Best LGU Partner in the Large-Scale Category.
To be able to provide for the demand of rice seeds in the City, the DA-PhilRice allocated 30,000 bags for the 2022 wet season, which will be distributed to farmers via OFCAS in April, 2022.
The Mayor expressed his gratitude to the DA-PhilRice for their kindness and attention in providing more free seeds to rice growers in the city. He also commended OFCAS, particularly the leadership of City Agriculturist Nobleto Sagun, who was honored with a plaque.
Meanwhile, the Mayor greeted the DA-Prism Regional Implementers, who paid a courtesy visit to monitor and gather information on the state of Kalinga’s rice production, as Tabuk City is their primary data source for the province.
