LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Anti-Crime and Terrorism Through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. and newly designated Benguet caretaker congressman Eric Go Yap assured the people and officialdom of the province that one of his priorities is the improvement and development of the sports facilities within the Wangal Sports Complex to ensure that Benguet can host local, regional and national sports competitions.
Speaking before a crowd that gathered at the Wangal Sports Complex during the welcome program accorded him, Yap commended the previous efforts of the late Rep. Nestor B. Fongwan, Sr., in putting up the gymnasium and that he will continue the same by introducing the needed improvements to make it suitable for the conduct of competitive sports.
Further, he added that the track oval must already be installed with the so-called rubberized track similar to those in other track ovals in the country so that Benguet can bid in the hosting of various sports competitions.
The Benguet caretaker congressman pointed out the need to introduce the overall development of the province for people to move out of Baguio City and not crowd in the city as what are available in Baguio will be made available in the different parts of Benguet in the coming years.
He disclosed Benguet can be a potential host of upcoming local, regional, national and even international sports competitions in the future once the Wangal Sports Complex will be developed and improved through the put up of additional state-of-the-art sports facilities aside from upgrading the existing ones to allow the province to produce top caliber athletes who can bring honor and pride not only to the province and the region, but also the country as a whole.
According to him, Benguet deserves to be developed in terms of its existing economic potentials thus he will try to work closely with the local officials and the concerned sectors for the identification of the priority projects that need funding and he will strive to source the same from concerned agencies not only to sustain the growth and development of the province, but also bring it to greater heights.
The party-list lawmaker claimed that he will maximize the utilization of linkages to ensure that his stint as the province’s caretaker congressman will be remembered by the people of Benguet and that if he will simply be a burden to the province until the end of the year, he will voluntarily resign from being a caretaker to allow others to possibly takeover.
He asserted that he knew Benguet because he had been frequenting the province in the past as a businessman trading different products ranging from machineries and agricultural products that is why he wants to further know and understand the people now that he is the caretaker for the vacated congressional post.
Yap underscored it is too unfortunate the holder Fongwan was not able to continue serving the people of Benguet as the province’s duly elected lawmaker but he will also try his best that even if he is not from the province, he will work extra hard to bring the needed development to Benguet within his stint.
