BAGUIO CITY – Apayao province is gearing up for an exciting culinary experience as it joins the much-anticipated Mangan Taku Food Fair 2024 on April 24-29 at the Rose Garden, Burnham Park, Baguio City.
One of the highlights from Apayao at this food fest is Dani’s Pizza, a local establishment known for its innovative fusion of traditional flavors into modern cuisine.
Among their featured dishes are specialties unique to Apayao, such as “pinalatan,” which combines fragrant pomelo leaves and red chili for a subtle spicy flavor. Another standout is the “sinursur,” a delicacy slow-cooked inside bamboo shoots, blending tender meat with sili and gabi leaves.
Additionally, Dani’s Pizza offers “pinaltit,” a dish infused with locally fermented fish, and “binanayan,” exhibiting the flavors of the edible and ornamental banay plant found in the mountains of Apayao.
Organized by the Department of Tourism Cordillera (DOT-CAR), Mangan Taku 2024 is part of the annual Filipino Food Month celebration held every April in the Philippines. April is declared Filipino Food Month or Buwan ng Kalutong Pilipino under Presidential Proclamation No. 469, signed in 2018. This month-long celebration pays homage to Filipino culinary culture and encourages everyone to explore the rich history and vivid flavors of the Cordillera region with the theme, “Kalutong Filipino, Lakas ng Kabataang Makabago,” aimed to empower the youth to promote Philippine culinary heritage and gastronomy.
The DOT CAR is inviting food enthusiasts and culture aficionados to savor the flavors of the Cordilleras and plunge themselves into a gastronomic journey of tradition and innovation. By JCM
