ITOGON, Benguet – Itogon Suyoc Resources, Inc. (ISRI), a subsidiary of the Davao-based Apex Mining Company, Inc. (AMCI), bagged two corporate and two individual awards during the just concluded 2020 Safest Mines Award of the Presidential Mineral Industry Environmental Award spearhead by the Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association (PMSEA).
ISRI won the Safest Underground Mining Operations and the Most Improved Mining Operations which are two of the prestigious awards given to responsible mining companies in the country.
Best Personalities Award for Underground Mining Operations also went to two of ISRI’s employees: Danny V. Peralta (Best Underground Safety Inspector) and Carlos T. Uyan (Best Underground Mine Supervisor).
The awards ceremony was held online recently at the DENR Social Hall (the ceremony can be viewed in the Facebook page of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau via the link Awards Ceremony).
Established in 1997 by virtue of Executive Order 399, PMIEA recognizes “outstanding levels of dedication, initiative, and innovation in various aspects of operations in the country’s minerals sector.”
Amidst the lockdowns and movement restrictions owing to the pandemic, the awards committee conducted offsite validations of the 18 contenders through the use of technology and with the help of the MGB’s regional offices. PMIEA’s 2020 edition covers the fiscal period July 2019 to June 2020.
The PMIEA evaluation committee is co-chaired by the secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the president of the Chamber of Mines of the Philippines as co-chairpersons. The other members of the committee are the secretaries of the Departments of Trade and Industry (DTI), Interior and Local Government (DILG), Health (DOH), Science and Technology (DOST), and the presidents of the Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association (PMSEA) and the Philippine Mineral Exploration Association (PMEA) as members.
