BAGUIO CITY – John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC), a government-owned and controlled corporation, joins the 2018 Brigada Eskwela.
In coordination with the Department of Education – CAR (DepEd-CAR) who identified the target public schools, the JHMC gave support for the Brigada Eskwela activities of Pongayan Barrio School in Kapangan, Benguet; Ambongdolan Elementary School in Tublay, Benguet; Talete Multi-Grade School in Sablan, Benguet; Saguitlang Elementary School in Tuba, Benguet and Tapsan Elementary School in Itogon, Benguet.
These public schools were located in separate far-flung areas and were occasionally visited by external stakeholders for communal school activities like Brigada.
For the five-day event, JHMC pooled its volunteers from its own personnel, security and service providers, and locators. More than twenty-five (25) volunteers joined and shared their skills, time, effort and resources to the various school-beneficiaries for the Brigada activities.
For public service and camaraderie, volunteers painted classrooms and roofs, cleaned and trimmed the school grounds, fixed electrical wirings, and, repaired and replaced electric bulbs.
Aside from manpower, the JHMC donated cleaning materials, pest control aids, gutters, school supplies and paint materials to the school beneficiaries.
Further, JHMC, donated and planted Benguet Pine trees and Arabica coffees in each school. As a responsible steward of more than 53% forest cover in Baguio City, JHMC envisions to expand the Benguet Pine tree canopy across the Cordillera region.
For the five-day activity, the JHMC covered five (5) public schools from 5 municipalities out of the thirteen (13) municipalities of Benguet and eyes for more far-flung public schools to attend to next year.
Allan Garcia, JHMC President and CEO, personally oversees the implementation of the Brigada Eskwela activities to make sure that these public schools were environmentally conscious, resilient, conducive and student-ready for the school year.
JHMC has always supported education of its stakeholders as a continuous empowerment of the Filipino learners to have an easy access to academic and skills enhancement.
Aside from these provincial schools, JHMC also attended to the Brigada Eskwela needs and requests of various public schools surrounding the reservation like Springhills Elementary School, San Vicente National High School, Happy Hollow Elementary School, Happy Hollow National High School and Lindawan National High School.
