LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Sixth seed BeGH Warriors and fifth seed Justice trounced their higher seeded opponents in contrasting fashion to stay alive for a semifinals berth during the start of the playoff round for the fifth season of the Laity Cup last June 1 at the San Jose Gym, here.
The BeGH Warriors used a 20-12 first quarter run to ignite a 79-61 rout of the Executive Mixers to set-up a win-or-go-home game for the right to face defending champion Legal Officers in the semifinals.
Not to be outdone, the Justice concocted a 21-11 fourth quarter blast to pull away from a see-saw game with the SPO Legislators in the other quarterfinal match-up to also set the knockout game this coming Thursday for the right to face the DepEd Mentors in the semifinals.
The Legal Officers and the Mentors received automatic semifinal berths by topping the round robin phase while the Mixers and the Legislators possess twice to beat advantage in the quarterfinal round.
Meanwhile, the Wesleyans outlasted San Jose, 96-90, secure at least the third seed and twice to beat advantage in the quarterfinals. All they can do is wait for the results of games for the Assembly of God to find out their final placement in the top four.
