TABUK CITY, Kalinga – In 2021, the city government accomplished five projects ranging from road improvements to the opening of more farm-to-market roads (FMR’s) and the construction of a school fence in barangay Laya East to help residents save time and money.
The following projects are worth Php 5,208,000 each: improvement of road from Barangay Laya East to Barangay San Julian, continuation of riverbank protection at Abogado Creek, improvement of road at Purok Linglingay, opening of FRM at Sitio Sinukbit, and continuation of the school fence at Laya East Elementary School.
In addition, a road development project for P30 million is now underway in two locations in the barangay.
One is at Sitio Bullungan valued at Php 20 million, while the other is in Sitio Zapote with Php 10 million fund allocation.
According to Barrio Kagawad Wilson Colalong, the residents of their barangay used to complain about the muddy and treacherous roads especially during rainy season.
With the concreted roads, movement of people and the delivery and transit of goods and produce of farmers from their farms and gardens to the city center is made easier, and vehicles are also less likely to break down, Colalong stated.
On the other completed improvements, he stated the school is now secure and no one would be able to easily enter or exit the school grounds.
He concluded, “Sapay kuma ta agtul-tuloy iti pannaka improve iti dal-dalan tapnu kasta ket nasay-sayaat ti pannaka ruwar da (farmers) ti produkto da ken iti kit-kita iti tal-talon da.”
