LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The La Trinidad Municipal Police Station (LTMPS) reported that the crime volume in the municipality drastically declined during the implementation of the extended Luzonwide enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) compared to the same period last year.
LTMPS chief Police Maj. Cleff Vencio disclosed that there were no theft cases that were recorded in the municipality from March 17 to April 15, 2020 or during the first month of the ECQ compared to the 21 theft cases that were reported during the same period last year.
Further, Vencio claimed that there was only 1 incident of physical injuries during the first month of the ECQ compared to the 20 cases during the same period last year while there were only 2 other non-index crimes that were reported during the ECQ compared to the 20 similar cases last year.
The police official added that there were no robbery and violence against women and children during the first month of the ECQ compared to the 9 robbery cases and 8 VAWC cases, respectively, during the same period last year while no child abuse cases were noted compared to the 5 cases in the same period of 2019.
According to him, there were only 3 homicide cases that were reported in the municipality last year compared to the no homicide case that was reported in the police blotter during the prevalence of the ECQ.
In terms of rape, there was only a single rape case in the municipality last year while there were no rape incidents that were reported in the police blotter during the ECQ.
On the implementation of special laws, there was only 1 incident that was recorded by the local police force last year compared to the 2 cases during the prevalence of the ECQ.
Vencio lauded the cooperation of the residents of the town’s 16 barangays to the guidelines governing the ECQ as it made their job much easier and allowed them to concentrate in their efforts to man the different established checkpoints in the locality to ensure that people will stay at home if they have nothing to do important outside their homes.
The police official assured the people and officialdom of the municipality that law enforcers are in control of the town’s peace and order situation and that what the local government wants is for the residents to respect the prevailing ECQ guidelines as the same will be beneficial to everyone as it will prevent them from contracting the deadly Corona Virus Disease (COVID) 2019.
He explained that the members of the local police force are in high spirits in discharging their assigned duties and responsibilities during the ECQ because of the enormous support of concerned sectors in the provision of the needed support to them for them to pursue their difficult mandate of having to serve and protect the people round the clock.
Vencio expressed his gratitude to the residents for their understanding and cooperation to the guidelines governing the ECQ that was extended up to May 15, 2020 because of the rise in COVID cases, thus, the need for them to be patient on the current inconveniences that they are encountering.
