May true-to-life stories tayong nababalitaan tungkol sa OFWs na hindi pinalad sa pakikipagsapalaran sa ibang bansa. May mga umuuwing luhaan, walang naipundar, at wala rin naipon. Ang masaklap pa rito, may umuuwing may sakit, baldado o kaya naman ay nasa kabaong na.

Ang mga nabanggit na kaso ang nagtulak sa SSS na gawing mandatory ang coverage ng OFWs. Sa minimum na halagang P960.00 at maximum na P2,400 kada buwan, kapalit nito ay pitong benepisyo mula sa SSS tulad ng maternity, sickness, disability, retirement, death, funeral at unemployment benefit.

Nakapaloob sa Social Security Act of 2018 ang pagiging mandatory o compulsary ang coverage ng OFWs. Ibig sabihin, ang land-based at sea-based OFWs na wala pang 60 taong gulang ay kailangan muna maging miyembro ng SSS bago sila makalabas ng bansa.

Pagbabalik tanaw sa kasaysayan ng SSS

Nasa ating gobyerno ngayon ang responsibilidad na pumasok pa sa mas maraming kasunduan o Bilateral Labor Agreements sa mga bansang may OFWs. Ang mga BLAs na ito kasi ang magsisilbing tulay upang maisakatuparan ang batas na ito. Ilan na sa mga bansa na mayroon na tayong BLA ay Austria, United Kingdom (UK) at Northern Ireland, Spain, France, Canada, Quebec, Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, Denmark, Portugal, Germany at Japan.

Kaya sa OFWs na nagbabakasyon ngayon sa ating bansa o kaya naman nagaayos ng kanilang mga papeles, magsadya lamang kayo sa pinakamalapit na SSS branch sa inyong lugar para sa karagdagang impormasyon tungkol sa inyong SSS coverage.

Sa kasalukuyan, may 27 Foreign Offices ang SSS. Ito ay matatagpuan sa loob ng embahada o kaya sa consular offices ng Pilipinas. Maaaring makipag-ugnayan ang ating OFWs dito para sa anumang transaksyon sa SSS. Ang mga ito ay matatagpuan sa Abu Dhabi, Al Khobar, Bahrain, Qatar, Dubai, Jeddah, Jordan, Kuwait, London, Madrid, Milan, Oman, Riyadh, Rome, Brunei, Calgary, Hong Kong, Kaohshiung, Kuala Lumpur, , Macau, San Francisco, Singapore, Taipei, Toronto at Vancouver. May opisia rin tayo sa Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) Office sa Ortigas.

Mabuting balita para sa lahat ng golf caddies! Isinusulong ni Congressman Mark Go ng lone district ng Baguio City ang House Bill (HB) 9160 upang magkaroon SSS, PhilHealth, at Home Development Mutual Fund o PAG-IBIG benefits ang lahat ng golf caddies sa buong bansa. Sa kasalukuyan, pumasa na ito sa pangalawang pagbasa sa mababang kapulungan. Kung magtuloy-tuloy ito na maging batas, siguradong mapapakinabangan nila ang mga benepisyo at pribilehiyong hatid ng SSS.

Tinalakay ko sa nagdaang kolum ang tungkol sa golf caddies sa Baguio Country Club na miyembro na ng SSS sa tulong ng Lady Golfers Association. Sa kasalukuyan, 19 sa mga caddies ay retirado na at nage-enjoy na ng kanilang buwanang pension sa SSS.

Ipanalangin natin na sana ay maisabatas na ito.

Speaking of pension, binisita ako ng isang SSS pensioner noong nakaraang linggo para ibalita sa akin na natanggap na niya ang kanyang ni-loan sa SSS. Nang marinig niya ako sa isang programa sa radyo tungkol sa Pension Loan, agad na nagtungo si Lolo Rodrigo sa SSS Baguio para mag-avail ng loan. Sa loob lamang ng limang araw ay natanggap na niya ang kanyang loan proceeds.

Kaya sa mga pensioners namin dito sa Baguio City at kalapit na lugar na may pangangailangang pinansyal at nais umutang, gayahin niyo po si Lolo Rodrigo. Sa SSS na po kayo umutang at mag-avail ang Pension Loan Program. Sumangguni lamang sa SSS branch na malapit sa inyong lugar upang makakuha ng tamang impormasyon tungkol sa PLP. Iwasan lamang po na makipag-ugnayan sa mga nagpapakilalang empleyado ng SSS at nangangakong aayusin nila ang inyong PLP application. Tiyak na scammer po iyan dahil kung sila ay lehitimong empleyado ay hindi dapat sila nakikipagtransaksyon sa labas ng SSS.

Binista natin ang SSS Candon branch noong nakaraang linggo. Napansin namin na napakalinis at napaka-ayos ang pangangasiwa ng mga empleyado dito sa pangunguna ni Acting Branch Head Amor Erpelo. Sa obserbasyon ni Sir Erpelo, halos walang nangyayaring transaksyon sa branch kapag kakabukas lang nila ng alas-otso. Subalit, dinadagsa na sila ng miyembro kapag tanghali na. Sa katunayan, halos puno na ng tao ang kanilang opisina nang bumisita kami. Kaya’t paalala ng SSS Candon branch, kung ayaw po ninyong sumabay sa napakaraming tao at nais niyong iwasan ang mahabang pila, pumunta na po kayo ng mas maaga sa branch. Tutal ay alas otso pa lang ng umaga ay nakahanda na silang magsilbi sa mga miyembro.
