BAGUIO CITY – All interested partners, firm, corporation, association, or any government agency which desires to engage in the establishment, operation and maintenance of animal facilities are required to secure a certificate of registration at the Department of Agriculture-Cordillera Administrative Region (DA-CAR) through its Livestock Program and the DA-Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) prior to the Local Government Unit’s (LGU) issuance of business permit.
This action is pursuant to Republic Act No. 8485 known as the Animal Welfare Act (AWA). This act provides guidelines in the registration of animal control facility, aviary, cattery, cattle farm, circus or carnival show, corral, crocodile farm, goat farm, corral, grooming facility, hog farm, kennel, laboratory animal facility, monkey farm, ostrich farm, pet shop, poultry farm, racetrack and equestrian establishment, slaughterhouse, stock farm, stockyard, stud farm, veterinary clinic, veterinary hospital, wildlife rescue center and zoo and other animal facilities.
Further, the AWA protects and promotes the welfare of animals, including birds, by supervising and regulating the establishment and operation of all facilities utilized for breeding, maintaining, keeping, treating or training of all animals either as objects of trade or as household pets.
