MANKAYAN, Benguet – The assigned light maintenance contractor of the Benguet Electric Cooperative (BENECO) in this municipality expressed his gratitude to the barangay officials in the town’s twelve barangays for their utmost cooperation in immediately restoring power to the households in the said places.
Poblacion punong barangay Mathew Batane, the assigned light maintenance contractor of BENECO for Mankayan and Buguias, said barangay officials from the different barangays provided real time reports on power outages in their respective areas of jurisdiction that allowed them timely response in troubleshooting the cause of such blackouts, especially in remote villages of the two municipalities.
Aside from reporting unscheduled power interruptions in their areas of jurisdiction, he claimed barangay officials also help in monitoring the threats to the power lines of the electric cooperative and report the same to the light maintenance contractor for immediate action, especially the clearing of lines from foreign objects that could cause unscheduled power outages in the two northern Benguet towns.
“We hope barangay officials in other municipalities with assigned light maintenance contractors will closely work together so that there will be timely response to reports on unscheduled power outages and other related activities to ensure the continuous supply of quality and reliable power to the people living in the countryside,” Batane stressed.
Earlier, BENECO decided to commission light maintenance contractors in the different municipalities of Benguet outside the Baguio-La Trinidad-Sablan-Tuba-Tublay (BLISTT) area to ensure there will be timely response in addressing the concerns and complaints of consumers related to unscheduled power outages and problems that could be worked on by two individuals.
Batane said he will try to work out similar arrangements with barangay officials of the nearby town of Buguias considering that the two municipalities are located close to each other to allow assigned personnel to be able to immediately respond when consumers need their assistance on concerns of their power supply and electrical connections, among other needs related to electricity.
The contractor expressed willingness to share the successful practice of the municipality of Mankayan on the prompt reporting of power interruptions that are unscheduled to other municipalities with similar arrangements with BENECO so that issues and concerns of the consumers on the supply of power will be immediately addressed to avoid misunderstanding between the concerned sectors.
BENECO is implementing programs and projects are geared towards significantly improving its services at the grassroots level as it remains committed in delivering to the thousands of consumers quality and reliable power passing through an improved power distribution system despite the stiff competition in the power industry over the past several decades.
