MANKAYAN, Benguet – Mayor Frenzel A. Ayong lashed out at his detractors for maliciously spreading in the social media that he had been trying to destroy the image of his fellow politicians to advance his own personal and political interests.
Ayong averred it is unfortunate that there are individuals who are trying to ruin his credibility by posting rumors without verifying their sources, thus, people should not be caught in the trap of the said individuals hiding under doubtful social media accounts to frontally attack his credibility as a duly elected public official.
“We cannot understand why there are some people who try to hide under the guise of anonymity or even use fictitious names and accounts to spread malicious accusations against me. We are willing to frontally face our critics but the intention of the people hiding under the guise of anonymity and fictious accounts are obvious that is why I want to correct the same as early as possible so as not to create a wrong impression from the public that we are evading such issues being hurled against me,” Mayor Ayong stressed.
He challenged those using fictitious accounts spreading rumors against him to come out in the open and prove the truth of their contentions because by hiding under such accounts, the owners do not have the basis to prove their postings.
According to him, he understands that there are people who are supporting the candidacy of aspirants for various elected posts in the province and the thirteen municipalities but everyone must learn to respect the decision of those aspiring to run for the upcoming May 2022 synchronized national and local elections.
Ironically, the mayor pointed out, the election is still very far but why are some individuals so sensitive about the present situation in the province as if they are the only ones who are entitled to be elected and the same is already a clear infringement of the individual freedom of people to choose whom to support.
Ayong stipulated that the performance of incumbent officials will serve as their passport towards re-election and what they should do at this point is to continue rendering genuine service to their constituents for them to be able to cope up with the difficult situation caused by the ongoing Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
He assured that if there are issues and concerns in the way he administers the local government, they can directly tell him about these so that he can directly respond to them and explain to them the merits of his programs, projects and activities rather than for these individuals to hide under fictitious accounts and simply try to ruin his credibility by spreading unfounded, biased and unfair rumors.
Ayong emphasized that he will not hesitate to patiently explain to his constituents the merits of his ongoing programs, projects and activities if there are issues being raised against the same but he will not mind being criticized if the issues are valid and from legitimate people and not those hiding under fictitious social media accounts.
