TABUK CITY, Kalinga – During the press conference hosted by the City Public Information Office (CPIO) today, City Mayor Darwin Estrañero issued a warning to tricycle and ombak drivers in the area who charge exorbitant fares.
In response to citizen complaints about excessive fares, particularly from students, Estrañero urged commuters to get in touch with the city authorities by obtaining the vehicle’s body number and, if feasible, the driver’s identity.
He said that because there is a specific tariff that must be adhered to, it is unlawful to charge passengers an exorbitant fare.
The fare for Bulanao delivery is fixed at PhP15.00, although occasionally it goes up to P20.00 or P30.00, especially in the vicinity of Hilltop.
Estrañero promised to meet with the Sangguniang Panlungsod Transportation Committee members to discuss the tariff rates. And once the tariff rates has been decided upon, all public transportation vehicles must display the tariff inside their vehicles so that passengers are made aware of how much to pay.
In order to stop the behavior of some scrupulous public transport drivers, the Mayor also requested support from the Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) and the Tabuk City Police Station. By Darwin S. Serion
