As part of PRO Cordillera’s intensified campaign against illegal logging, the Lumin-awa cops of Kalinga Police Provincial Office (PPO) recovered more than P130K worth of illegally sawn lumber in Sitio Patakalig, Brgy Lower Taloctoc, Tanudan, Kalinga, on October 26, 2023.
According to the reports submitted to PRO Cordillera Regional Director, PBGEN DAVID K PEREDO, JR, the police officers of Tanudan Municipal Police Station (MPS), led by PCPT FLORAND O SIM, received information from the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO)-Tabuk about some abandoned illegally sawn lumber found along the riverbank in Sitio Patakalig.
The personnel of Tanudan MPS and CENRO-Tabuk immediately responded to the said area and were able to recover approximately 270.16 board feet of Narra lumber in different dimensions with an estimated value of Php135,080.00.
The recovered lumber were brought to CENRO-Tabuk for documentation and proper disposition while an ongoing investigation is being conducted to arrest the possible suspects who will be facing charges for the violation of PD 705 or the Forestry Reform Code of the Philippines.
Further, Kalinga PPO encourages the community to report any illegal activities to the authorities and to support the campaign towards protecting and preserving our natural resources.
