TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The Office of the City Agricultural Services (OCAS) and Department of Agriculture-Cordillera (DA-CAR) on Wednesday, September 23, distributed 1,299 live ducks to farmer organizations in Nambucayan and Guilayon as part of the government’s effort to help farmers in impoverished areas in the region.
Funded through the DA-Special Area for Agriculture Development (SAAD) Program, the poultry raising project hopes to boost duck production in the area and increase the income of the recipients.
A total of 629 female ducks and 170 male ducks went to four farmer organizations in Nambucayan while 360 female ducks and 170 male ducks were given to one farmer organization in Guilayon.
City Agriculturist Julibert Aquino said the duck distribution is the first among a series of interventions intended for Nambucayan and Guilayon. He said that aside from the ducks, the farmers will also receive feeds, chickens, coffee seedlings, rambutan seedlings, and an egg incubator.
Aquino said the intervention is a product of a series of planning and consultations with the DA-CAR.
In a message during the distribution program, he urged the farmers to sustain and make these interventions as an income generating project.
Meanwhile, Bentres Goyo of the DA-CAR said that barangays Bagumbayan, Dupag, Magnao, and other identified insurgency-influenced barangays in the city will also be covered by the SAAD program come 2021.
Also present during the distribution were Henry Gupaal who represented City Mayor Darwin Estrañero, City Information Officer Aurora Amilig, and personnel from the OCAS and DA-CAR. By Iryll Sicnao
