TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The City Nutrition Council (CNC), held its first quarter meeting on April 22, 2024. During the meeting, City Administrator Noli Tenedero represented Council Chairperson Mayor Darwin C. Estrañero.
The meeting highlighted the nutritional status of the city, outlining targeted interventions to combat malnutrition.
According to the report, the number of underweight cases dropped significantly this year from 775 in 2018 to just 291; nonetheless, the council is still working to reduce and potentially eliminate malnutrition in the city.
During the deliberations, one of the most important measures identified to help improve nutrition in the City is home food production.
Various council members, including the Office of the City Agricultural Services and the City Environment and Natural Resources Office, are assigned to provide seeds and seedlings for the Gulayan sa Paaralan and Gulayan sa Barangay programs.
The City Population Commission is enlisted to provide technical support to incorporate nutrition awareness into information and education campaigns.
Furthermore, the City Public Employment Services Office will provide nutrition-focused specialized training programs.
